Description
To study the physical processes associated with early-stage tropical cyclone development vs. non-development, composite and individual case analyses were made of US Air Force northwestern Pacific 950 mb (̃1500 feet) aircraft "investigative" reconnaissance flights into tropical disturbances.

Description
In this study, the RAMS@CSU cloud-resolving mesoscale forecast model is run in a real-time configuration with a sophisticated microphysical package and multiple nested grids, in which the smallest grid has increased vertical resolution in the lower boundary layer. Using this configuration, two specific fog events are simulated in 3-D using initialization data with a horizontal resolution of 40 km.

Description
The divergence of net radiation in a tropical atmosphere with cirrus clouds has been examined in terms of two bulk radiative properties of the cloud: shortwave thickness and broad-band infrared emissivity.

Description
Despite the general applicability of classical Ekman theory, individual observations of wind veering in the planetary boundary layer seldom exhibit the typical spiral turning with height. This study attempts to assess the reasons for these deviations from theory which occur not only as large fluctuations in time but also as significant differences in mean profiles from one location to another.

Description
In July 1990, the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University (CSU) received a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to deploy Surface Radiation Budget (SRB) measurement stations in a region of the equatorial western Pacific in order to collect data for a pilot study of the radiation budget.

Description
This study examines the location and development of turbulence in the morning hours of boundary layer development over mountainous terrain. Four case study days are presented which illustrate important features on two types of days observed in the mountains of central Colorado.
