Description
The purpose of the installation is to test and demonstrate surge technology to local farmers. It has been proven elsewhere that the surge irrigation technology enables irrigators to achieve higher irrigation efficiencies, uniform applications, and deep percolation reduction. Reducing deep percolation decreases salt loading of the Colorado River.

Digital imagery from the SMS 2 geostationary satellite was recorded for analysis in support of the Sierra Cooperative Pilot Project. Imagery of five storms during the 1976 77 and 1977 78 seasons of the project were analyzed.
